Closing out the Florentine Opera's 83rd season
Milwaukee's very own Florentine Opera closes its 83rd season with a shining production of Rossini's riotous opera, The Barber Of Seville. The usually unlucky Figaro becomes a master schemer in this work that takes deception and slapstick to massive heights with the sunniest of happy endings that should be available on prescription! Failing that, if you prefer your operas to be uplifting and romantic, this is a fantastic entry into the art's canon.
When the dastardly Dr Bartolo keeps his ward Rosina under lock and key in order to secure her fortune and a wife in the process. However the lovestruck Count Almaviva, disguising himself as a poor student to win Rosina's love, tries to serenade her at night. Despite a failed plan to gain access to Bartolo's house, the, second scheme involving the help of a certain Barber (hello Figaro!), a music teacher and a high-octane plot to spirit Rosina from the house, turns out to be more successful, albeit 10 times more chaotic!
