The Marcus Center had taken three years to complete and had cost over $12 million when it opened in 1969. It won many architectural awards for its contemporary design and imaginative structure. One of the many innovations of the centre is its organ which is stored below the stage and can be raised to floor level by its own elevator. It holds over 2,500 people.
