A double feature in one evening!
First debuting in 2003, Kathryn Posin's critically acclaimed ballet Scheherazade makes a welcome return to Milwaukee Ballet for fall 2016, combined in a double feature with Mark Godden's Angels In The Architecture. Set to the alluring score by Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade is based on the ancient Arabian anthology One Thousand And One Arabian Nights, whilst Angels is set to Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite, celebrating the Shakers religious movement.
Posin's Scheherazade evokes the exoticism of ancient Arabia, following the wily consort who allures her murderous husband with countless tales through dance, in a colorful and passionate journey, in order to save her life. Godden's Angels In The Architecture is a pastoral dream, with solo and ensemble dancing supplemented by simple props that highlight the simplicity of the Shaker life, including chairs and brooms weaving in and out of the choreography.
