Penelope Spills the Tea

Drawing on the writings of Homer in The Odyssey, Penelope breathes life into the ancient Greek classic, transforming the legendary figure into a tangible, modern woman. With a book by Alex Bechtel, Grace McLean and Eva Steinmetz, and music and lyrics by Alex Bechtel, Laura Braza directs this production which includes a three-piece band, playing at the Milwaukee Rep!

What Is It About?

While Odysseus navigates the monsters and gods of the Mediterranean, his wife remains anchored on the shores of Ithaca, navigating a different kind of peril. Penelope invites the audience into a private, bourbon-soaked evening where the "faithful wife" of myth finally speaks for herself, to the sounds of jazz, folk and rock.
