Son Volt at Turner Hall Ballroom

Why see Son Volt?

Alt-country Rock pioneers on the road

Critically acclaimed five-piece Son Volt are back on the road this year, bringing their signature blend of rock, folk, and Americana to stages throughout North America! Helmed by lead singer and songwriter Jay Farrar, the Illinois group are considered as one of the pioneers of 90s alt-country rock and the strength of their prolific output of albums shows why, three decades on, they continue to be one of the cult figures of the genre.

Formed in 1994 after Farrar and former bandmate Jeff Tweedy went their separate ways following the breakup of Uncle Tupelo (with Tweedy going on to form Wilco), Son Volt released their debut album in 1995 with Warner Bros Records, with the single "Drown" reaching the top-10 rock charts. 28 years and ten studio albums later (plus an eleventh exclusively in record shops for Record Store Day 2023) they continue to be one of the most important acts in American alternative rock.
