Carlise Floyd transports us back to the heady days of Restoration England in this new opera adapted from Jeffrey Hatcher's esteemed 1999. Concerning the true story of actor Edward Kynaston, a man famed for his impeccable portrayal of women on the London stage, and his abject horror at King Charle II's decree allowing real females to tread the boards in lieu of men playing them. Forced out of his profession, Prince of Players follows his transformation from 'the prettiest woman on the London stage' to one of the most respected actors of his day.
Starring as Keith Phares Kynaston and Kate Royal in her Florentine Opera debut as Margaret Hughes, his competition, let this two act Chamber opera fuel your imagination as you enjoy one of the most bawdy and uproarious periods in theatrical history.
